St Peter's Church, Formby

Choir

Our mixed-voice Choir is affiliated to the Royal School of Church Music. It sings the two main services each Sunday – Parish Eucharist and Choral Evensong.

From time to time the choir is supported by friends from the Congregation, and beyond. In recent years the St Peter’s Singers have sung in Chester and Liverpool Cathedrals, and have given concerts in the Church, as well as singing special music – such as Stainer’s Crucifixion and Fauré’s Requiem – for Passiontide and Remembrance respectively.

The Eucharist is always celebrated with a choral setting of the liturgy, which the Congregation also sings. The Choir sings one or two motets during the Administration of the Communion, and from time to time other special choral works are sung in the context of worship.

Evensong is led by the choir, with an introit and anthem every week, and occasional choral settings of the Canticles. The congregation sings the hymns enthusiastically, and join in the Anglican Chant settings of the psalms, Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis.

If you would like to become part of our choir, please contact the organist.

Our church choir is currently incomplete, without boys and girls. Hundreds down the years have served the church in this way and a number now have fine musical achievements to their name. All have carried life-enhancing benefits into adulthood.
