Dementia Group

We promote a positive approach for those living with memory loss or dementia, both sufferers carers.

We offer a holistic programme to help carers manage daily behaviour, access benefits, legal advice and other services, and promoting sustained wellbeing.

We hold relaxing, shorter services at Easter, Harvest and Christmas, and help our many Church groups to be dementia-friendly too.

We have easy access: the Formby Circular bus stops right outside the Church and main bus routes stop nearby. Our parking is plentiful and free, and our buildings are step-free.

Fishy Club

Fishy Club

Fishy Club is an after school bible club for children in Years 3 to 6 of primary school. The “Fishy” reminds us of St Peter’s job as a fisherman.

We have a varied programme with lots of input from children. Each Club begins with a drink, chocolate and games followed by a topic looked at in a variety of ways.

Library

Books and jigsaws can be borrowed and swapped from our library in the church porch. The church porch is open each day from 10am to 4pm.

Items for all ages and levels are available.
We are always happy to receive contributions of additional books and jigsaws, in good condition and complete. We don’t have space to share magazines.

Mothers’ Union

First Thursday of the month,
2pm, in the Bier House.

Membership is open to men and women. We keep our Christian faith central, as we seek to improve family life in our community through practical action and through prayer. We aim to serve those around us, as Christ wants us to. We support marriage and family life, especially through times of adversity, tackling challenges to relationships and communities.

Our Mothers’ Union is part of an international Christian charity that seeks to support families worldwide. We aim for a world where God’s love is evident through loving, respectful and flourishing relationships.  We seek this through prayer, programmes, policy work and community relationships.

Primetime

Primetime flower planting

3rd Wednesday of the month,
7.30pm, in the Parish Hall.

Primetime was set up in January 2016 with the intention of encouraging ladies to get together once a month for fun, friendship and support. Since then we’ve learned about all sorts of things including cruising, quilting, online safety, finance, soap making, life as a nanny in Saudi, the RSPCA, Knitted Knockers, shoeboxes, the cafes on the beach and each other! We’ve had a go at festive foliage, card and calendar making, yoga, enjoyed food and tea tasting, meals out, a theatre trip, summer coffee and cake evenings under the stars and a ‘show and tell’ evening. Each May we have donned the gardening gloves and wielded the trowels to plant containers for outside the Church and Bier House.

We do something different each month, but whatever we do we have a good time.

Monthly attendance is not compulsory – numbers have varied from 9 to 26. We generally meet on the third Wednesday of the month in the Old School Room, Parish Hall, Paradise Lane at 7.30pm, but it’s always a good idea to check dates as occasionally we do change them.

We promote the group in the magazine, bulletin and email newsletter and remind the existing group by sending an email out each month.

We are always happy to welcome any ladies wanting to come along for the first time. Come and join us, we’re a friendly bunch and we’d love to see you!

Refugee Support Group

We arrange Welcome Days for asylum seekers in the Liverpool area, each month from March to November.

We are a voluntary ecumenical group based at St. Peter’s Church collaborating with Asylum Link Merseyside. Active Asylum gathers a group of no more than thirteen asylum seekers for us to bring to Formby.

Asylum seekers are invariably strongly motivated, courageous and frequently highly qualified. With a desire to change the world for the better, many would like to return to their own country if it became possible. They come from places such as Palestine, Yemen, and Cameroon, as well as Sudan, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Iraq, Iran, and Syria. Often there is armed conflict or persecution in the country of origin. Such people have genuine reasons to be with us, many with harrowing personal accounts. Responses to our Welcome Days are always positive, warm, heart-felt and sometimes emotional.

At St. Peter’s church hall we provide a hot drink and vegetarian lunch for everyone, then we visit Ainsdale beach for games and swimming, weather permitting. We return to the hall for afternoon tea, and St. Peter’s Mother’s Union donate a bag of toiletries to each person before their return to Liverpool. If the weather is too inclement for the beach, we spend the afternoon playing table top games, such as bagatelle and ‘four in a row’, which always prove popular.

We collect and distribute good quality clothing (particularly men’s) donated by Formby people. Asylum Link has a bicycle repair workshop and so we also deliver unwanted bicycles to be recycled and brought into new use.

We welcome any donations and time, particularly from a driver able to handle a minibus. peterspaine@gmail.com

Time Out

Dates for Men (mainly) Beer and Topics are advertised in the bulletin and in the Parish magazine.

Take some time out to talk about what matters. Join us over a drink in the Bier House to listen and chat about some of the things that matter to all of us. We have had some really interesting discussions over a pint or two.

This is an informal opportunity to share ideas and thoughts together.
Dates are advertised in the bulletin and in the Parish magazine.
