Our mixed-voice choir is affiliated to the Royal School of Church Music and sings each Sunday at both Parish Eucharist and Choral Evensong. Choristers rehearse new music regularly for the Sunday services.
From time to time the choir is supported by friends from the Congregation and beyond. In recent years the St Peter’s Singers have sung in Blackburn, Chester and Liverpool Cathedrals, and have given concerts in the Church, as well as singing special music, such as Stainer’s Crucifixion and Fauré’s Requiem, for Passiontide and Remembrance respectively.
Sunday Parish Eucharist is always celebrated with a choral setting of the liturgy, which the Congregation also sings. The choir sings one or two motets during the Administration of the Communion, and from time to time other special choral works are sung in the context of worship.
Evensong is led by the choir, with an introit and anthem every week, and occasional choral settings of the Canticles. The congregation sings the hymns enthusiastically, and joins in the Anglican Chant settings of the psalms, Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis.
Our church choir is currently lacking the younger voices of boys and girls. Hundreds have served the church in this way down the years and many now have fine musical achievements. All have carried life-enhancing benefits into adulthood.
